Privacy Policy

Maria AI is a mobile expense manager published by
Kouman.ai (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what
information the Maria AI app and related cloud services collect, how we
use it, and the choices you have.
Summary
Your transaction ledger stays on your device in a local SQLite database. When you use AI chat or receipt analysis, relevant text and media are sent to our cloud backend and processed by Google Gemini to generate responses. We use Firebase Authentication for sign-in and store account and usage metadata in Firebase/Google Cloud.
Information we collect
- Account information: email address and authentication identifiers when you sign in with email/password, Google Sign-In, or Sign in with Apple.
- Chat and inference content: messages, prompts, and attachments you submit for AI features (e.g. expense extraction or assistant chat). This content is transmitted to our Firebase Cloud Functions and forwarded to Google Gemini for processing.
- Usage: daily and weekly AI request counters per account to enforce usage limits and protect service stability.
- Account status: whether your account is active, waitlisted, or restricted for beta access control.
- App preferences: settings such as language and currency stored locally on your device.
- Local transactions: merchants, amounts, categories, and dates you save are stored in SQLite on your device unless you export or delete them.
Information we do not collect centrally
We do not upload your full transaction database to our servers as part of normal app operation. Cloud processing is limited to the content needed for the AI feature you invoke.
How we use information
- Authenticate you and manage your account.
- Provide AI-assisted chat, expense extraction, and transcription.
- Enforce usage quotas and protect service stability.
- Operate, secure, and improve the Maria AI service.
- Respond to support requests you send us.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data for third-party advertising.
Service providers
We rely on trusted processors, including:
- Google Firebase — authentication, cloud functions, and Firestore metadata.
- Google Gemini — AI inference for chat and extraction flows.
- Google Sign-In — optional sign-in (subject to Google’s privacy policy).
- Sign in with Apple — optional sign-in on Apple devices (subject to Apple’s privacy policy).
These providers process data according to their own terms and privacy policies. Prompt content sent to Gemini is processed to return results to you; refer to Google’s documentation for model data handling.
Microphone, camera, and files
If you use voice input or attach receipts or images, the app accesses the microphone, camera, photo library, or files only with your permission and only to provide the feature you requested. Voice recordings are sent to our cloud backend and transcribed with Google Gemini so Maria can respond. Attachments may also be sent for AI processing.
Data retention
- Local transaction data remains on your device until you delete it in the app or uninstall the app.
- Account and usage metadata in Firebase is retained while your account is active and as needed for security and legal compliance.
- AI request content is processed transiently to provide responses; we do not build a permanent cloud copy of your full ledger.
Your choices
- Sign out at any time from Settings.
- Clear local transaction data from Settings.
- Delete your account permanently from Settings or the waiting-list screen (Delete account). This removes your Firebase Authentication record, account metadata, usage quotas on our servers, and local transactions on your device.
- Revoke microphone, camera, or photo access in iOS Settings.
Children
Maria AI is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
International transfers
Data may be processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate, with safeguards appropriate to the service.
Changes
We may update this policy as the app evolves. The current version is always posted at this URL. Material changes may be communicated in-app or by email when appropriate.
